This isn’t entirely a sudden development either – Glu has been warning existing Gamespy clients about this for two years. Most older games on that platform will be losing their multiplayer capabilities as well. So they’ve all been driven out by Glu in order to make their purchase of Gamespy more profitable and most publishers and developers are panicking as the deadline for the shutdown date looms closer.įor those of you who’ve put two and two together because of the close proximity of the announcements, Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection service that was available on the DS and Wii was almost entirely powered by Gamespy. For over a decade Gamespy provided a valuable and necessary service to game developers who needed a multiplayer matchmaking and hosting service on the internet and for much of my gaming life I’ve seen this logo on game boxes and in game installations that use Gamespy. However, the city itself has less character, and while the stylized art style does its best to cover up the lack of detail, it does so with limited success.Back in 2000 IGN acquired the Gamespy network and added it in to its portfolio of stuff that they own and spent money on. You can also customize your gang members’ looks as pimps, bodyguards, or ninjas (among others). Spock - which added some genuinely hilarious moments to the in-engine cutscenes. You can go for the standard gangster look, or perhaps you could try an obese cross-dressing clown. Right from the start, SR2 lets you get creative with the comical character customization options. The plot isn’t very complex, though, so there’s no problem figuring out who you should point your gun at. PC-only gamers might feel a bit out of sorts at first, since the original Saints Row never made it to the PC, and some plot threads and returning characters pick up right where the first game left off. The game begins with a bang when your character awakens from a two-year coma and immediately sets off to re-establish the Saints gang as the city’s dominant criminal organization, fighting three rival gangs and a corporate sleazebag.
